In a speech contest, a protest may be lodged for lack of eligibility or originality. Only voting judges and contestants are allowed to protest. The Speech Contest Rulebook lays out procedures for handling a protest.

Leaving the speaking area is not a matter for protest, but rather a factor in the scoring of the speech by judges.
